About

400x72_2291Hello! My name is Laura and I am: a writer, a wife, a mother, a runner, and a sinner in no particular order. I make mistakes at all of the above, but sometimes I get it right.

Her Own Two Feet has evolved over the last 9 years, after the birth of my first daughter. I felt an incredible responsibility to bring her up with an awareness of her potential as well as an understanding of her role as a woman born when and where she was.

Unlike her mom, she is a natural athlete. She can climb, jump, run, swim, and throw better than I can and always will. I realized that if I was going to live life with this one, I was going to need to get moving at a much faster pace than I had been.

After the birth of my second daughter, I began running. It hasn’t always been pretty. I have “intrinsically weak foot muscles”, direct quote from the doc. But the Apostle Paul said, when I am weak, then I am strong, right? Through both celebrations and setbacks, this girl who vowed she’d never run is now a convert.

For me, running is therapy,  it is health, and it is a regular lesson in my own limits as well as my capabilities. In short, it helps me be better at life. And it keeps me on my toes for whatever my girls throw my way.

But Her Own Two Feet is more than that. It’s doing what we can in this world with what we’ve been given. In my opinion, two working feet, and a healthy body, should never be taken for granted. And our position in life, our place in this world, should be used for the benefit of others.

I truly believe that to whom much is given, much is expected. So lace up. We’re hitting the ground running.
